A fine specimen of early 20th-century innovation, this Edison Standard Model B phonograph stands out not just for its solid mechanics, but for its bold visual presence. Recently serviced and running flawlessly, it features the iconic gear-driven motor and 2-minute gearing system—hallmarks of Edison’s engineering brilliance.
What truly sets this machine apart is its original-style “Searchlight” horn—an eye-catching Red painted with Gold pinstripes bell horn with a long neck, mounted with an adjustable crane for optimal positioning. This horn doesn’t just amplify—it elevates the experience, delivering vibrant playback and commanding attention in any display. The term “Searchlight horn” comes from its distinctive shape, which closely resembles the large, flared reflectors used in early 20th-century military and industrial searchlights. These horns typically feature a long, narrow neck that flares dramatically into a wide, polished bell—often made of aluminum or nickel-plated brass. The design wasn’t just for show: much like a searchlight reflector focuses and projects light, the horn’s shape was engineered to amplify and direct sound more efficiently from the phonograph’s reproducer.
Housed in a rich oak cabinet, the Model B offers smooth winding, excellent speed regulation, and authentic sound through its included reproducer. It comes complete with horn, crane, and winding key. Excellent matchup to be added to your collection or it will make a gorgeous display at your home or office. If you have any questions, as always, feel free to ask!
