Description:

Edison GEM Phonograph with Gem Horn!

The Gem was launched in 1899 at an introductory price of $7.50, designed as an economical alternative to Columbia’s Type Q. However, by 1905, its price had increased to $10. Surviving examples of the Gem are less common compared to the Edison Homes and Standards. This phonograph featured several distinctive characteristics. Notably, its small clockwork mainspring was not housed within a barrel. Additionally, the cast iron case was integrated with the motor, contrasting with the typical design of other Edison machines that utilized a cast iron bedplate and wooden casing. The combination brake and speed control required adjustments to the speed for each cylinder used. This specific Gem has undergone a comprehensive restoration, addressing both mechanical and cosmetic aspects. We take great care in servicing our machines to minimize any potential issues, ensuring that you will have a reliable device to enjoy for many years. This model is accompanied by a 20-inch black Gem horn and a crane for secure horn placement, making it a stunning addition to your collection or a delightful feature in your home.
