Vintage Edison Standard Model D – Dual‑Format Cylinder Machine with Horn

This Edison Standard Model D is a beautifully preserved example of one of Edison’s most dependable and collectible cylinder phonographs. The machine presents extremely well, with a clean cabinet, bright decals, and a restoration that appears to have been completed a few years ago by a skilled hand. While not restored by me, the workmanship is excellent throughout, and the phonograph runs smoothly and correctly.

Equipped with a Model H Reproducer – Plays 4‑Minute Records

This machine comes fitted with a Model H reproducer, designed specifically for 4‑minute Blue Amberol and 4‑minute wax Amberol cylinders. The reproducer tracks cleanly and delivers strong, clear sound.

Plays BOTH 2‑Minute and 4‑Minute Cylinders (With the Correct Reproducer)

The Standard Model D was engineered for dual‑format capability. To play 2‑minute cylinders, simply swap to an Edison Model C reproducer. If you prefer a single reproducer that handles both formats, you can also acquire a Model K, which plays 2‑minute and 4‑minute records with one unit.

This flexibility is one of the reasons the Model D remains a favorite among collectors and first‑time owners alike.

Mechanical Condition

Everything functions as it should:

  • Strong, even‑running spring motor
  • Smooth governor action
  • Proper feed‑screw engagement
  • Clean gearing and correct mandrel alignment

It’s a machine you can wind up and enjoy immediately.

Black & Brass Horn Included

The phonograph is paired with a classic black‑and‑brass morning‑glory style horn, giving the machine a bold, elegant presence. The brass bell adds warmth and visual appeal, making this a standout display piece as well as a fully functional antique.

A Desirable, Ready‑to‑Enjoy Edison Cylinder Machine

The Standard Model D remains one of Edison’s most versatile and collectible home phonographs. Clean, properly restored examples with correct operation and a quality horn are becoming increasingly scarce. This is a machine with charm, presence, and the authentic sound of the early 1900s — a piece you’ll be proud to own and display.
