Description:

1898 Berliner Trademark Gramophone

The Berliner Gramophone Model “A” Phonograph, introduced in 1898 and priced at $15, marked a significant milestone in sound recording history. Early models were distinguished by a vibrant decal and a unique serial number, while later models were adorned with a distinctive aluminum plate. Emile Berliner, the gramophone’s inventor, was instrumental in advancing sound recording technology. The Berliner Improved Model “A” showcased here is a remarkable example from the 1890s, in what appears to be superb condition. The phonograph is seemingly original except for the felt, which might have been restored. The cabinet remains in excellent condition, with only minor wear on the decal. Complete with the Clark/Johnson “J” Reproducer and its corresponding horn, this piece stands as a magnificent acquisition for any collector and a notable showpiece.
