Description:

Shell Oil Company Promotional Watch by Girard-Perregaux

Girard-Perregaux, a renowned watch manufacturer, produced this particular timepiece. In the year 1939, they meticulously crafted around 30,000 skeleton pocket watches, each measuring approximately 19 Lignes and 10s. These watches, although modestly equipped with only 7 jewels, possessed a unique feature – their plates were ingeniously designed to resemble the distinctive outline of an oil rig. Interestingly, the initial attempt to lubricate these watches with Shell Oil proved unsuccessful. Consequently, the watches were returned to Girard-Perregaux, where they underwent a thorough cleaning and were properly lubricated with suitable watch oils. Despite the initial setback, Girard-Perregaux decided to distribute these timepieces to American Shell Gasoline and Oil dealers as a captivating advertising gimmick. The watch in question is one of these original timepieces, which has undergone professional overhauling and meticulous inspection. It not only functions flawlessly but also exudes an exquisite aesthetic appeal. Additionally, it comes accompanied by the original “Shell” fob, adding to its historical significance. Should you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to ask.
