The “1899 Edison Drip Pan Gem” signifies the first Edison Gem and had a brief production run. This particular model has several unique features that are not present in any other Edison phonograph. One standout aspect is the reproducer, which was permanently installed at the factory into the carriage. This unit has undergone a complete restoration and is now ready to be showcased in your home or office! It is an impressive machine that operates smoothly and efficiently! It comes with an “original” 10-inch funnel-style horn. The motor end of the belt pulley is relatively small, while the upper belt pulley that connects to the mandrel is strikingly large. This model was never fitted with a wooden cabinet or lid. Instead, it features a metal “Drip Pan” secured beneath the motor to capture oil and other lubricants. The motor runs effortlessly, showcasing its power and durability. The nickel-plated key is original. The carriage moves seamlessly on the threaded feed screw. The “Gem” model A was produced exclusively in 1899, indicating a short-lived availability. The model “A” included a metal pan at the base to collect any grease or oil that may have dripped from the machine. It was the only model manufactured without a wooden case or base. The earliest Gems were designed without cases and incorporated a metal drip pan under the motor to collect oil. The model A features a one-of-a-kind built-in reproducer that is inseparable from the carriage. The early model A was sold for $7.50. If you have any inquiries, please feel free to contact us!
