Description:

Edison 4-minute Cylinder…“Watermelon Party” (Scarce Early Phonograph Recording!)

This is an original Edison 2‑minute cylinder, catalog No. 2176, featuring the celebrated ensemble Polk Miller and His “Old South” Quartette—one of the most distinctive and culturally significant groups recorded during the early 1900s. Their performances were widely admired for their musicianship and authenticity, making surviving examples of their cylinders especially desirable among collectors today.

The cylinder itself is in very good condition, showing clean surfaces and strong playback potential for its age. It comes complete with its original Edison cardboard storage tube, an important detail that enhances both preservation and collectability.

Recordings by Polk Miller and his Quartette were popular more than a century ago, and they remain highly sought‑after due to their historical importance, limited production, and the group’s unique place in early American recording history. Authentic examples like this do not appear often, especially in this grade.
