Description:

Columbia Model “N- Bijou” Spring Motor Graphophone.

This early iteration of the Graphophone, manufactured around 1895 or 1896 in Washington DC, is in remarkable condition and is highly coveted due to its rarity. It followed the larger “Spring Motor” models, including the Edison class “M,” and was one of the first to utilize the Tainter and Bell Patents. At the time, it was priced at approximately $40, which was equivalent to a month’s salary, and was designed for domestic use. The machine not only functions as a remarkable decorative piece, but its wooden oak case is also in excellent condition. The original decal remains intact, enhancing its appeal. The motor operates smoothly and appears to be fully functional, with the nickel plating on the upper bedplate in good condition, showing only minimal signs of wear after more than 130 years. The complete motor features the clockwork mechanism, as shown in the accompanying photographs, and comes with the original crank, reproducer, and a 14-inch aluminum phonograph horn. This Graphophone represents a rare and distinguished collectible, providing a unique opportunity for enthusiasts. Should you have any inquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
