Standard Talking Machine Company “Model A” Phonograph

Offered here is a beautifully restored Standard Talking Machine Co. “Model A”, a machine manufactured for Standard by the Columbia Phonograph Company during the early 1900s. These rebadged Columbia machines were marketed under the Standard name but retained Columbia’s reliable engineering, proven motor design, and distinctive styling. This example has received a complete mechanical and cosmetic restoration, returning it to smooth, dependable performance. The motor has been fully serviced, the governor carefully calibrated, and all mechanical components adjusted for steady, confident playback. The cabinet presents cleanly with period‑appropriate finishes that respect the machine’s original appearance. This Model A features the slightly larger Columbia‑style spindle, originally designed so customers would purchase records specific to the brand. To get you started, several compatible records are included at no charge. If desired, a different turntable can also be purchased to allow the machine to play standard‑sized records.

A striking original blue horn completes the presentation, adding a vibrant visual contrast that makes this machine stand out as both a display piece and a functional early talking machine. The horn pairs beautifully with the machine’s compact footprint, giving it a bold yet elegant presence. Collectors appreciate the Model A for its connection to Columbia’s manufacturing quality and its place in the broader landscape of early disc and cylinder machine branding. This restored example is ready for enjoyment, display, or addition to a curated collection of early talking machines.
